Privacy Policy

Your account

If you create an account we store your email address, the name you give us, your plan, and when you accepted the Terms. Accounts are provided by our database and authentication provider, Supabase.

While you're signed in, your saved articles, research folders (including any essay drafts saved in them), search history and Daily Challenge progress are stored in your account so you can use them on any device.

Access rules in our database ensure each account can only read and change its own data. Your search history is kept to count your monthly free searches and to show your recent searches.

What stays on your device

PDFs and text you give the Article Analyzer, Essay Grader and Study Tools are processed inside your browser and are never uploaded to Kanora's servers. Essay drafts, grading results and study sets stay in your browser unless you save them in a research folder.

If you use Kanora without signing in, everything you save is kept only in your browser's local storage. Logging out removes your account's data from that browser.

What is sent to our server

Search queries and Brainstormer subjects are sent to Kanora's server, which forwards them to public academic databases (OpenAlex, Semantic Scholar, PubMed, Europe PMC, Crossref, arXiv, DOAJ, and — for relevant topics — DBLP, INSPIRE-HEP and ERIC) to fetch results. Those services receive the query text, not your identity.

Like most websites, our hosting provider may keep standard technical logs (such as IP address and request time) for security and reliability.

Links to other sites

Article links take you to publishers, repositories and Google Scholar, which have their own privacy policies.

Deleting your data

Delete saved articles and folders from your Dashboard at any time. To delete your whole account and everything in it, contact Kanora and we'll remove it.

Changes

If Kanora adds payments, this policy will be updated before they launch.
